English Assignment 2

Assignment:Write a 250- word response to the hypothetical question from Miss Kinnian: “I feel sad when I see Charlie lock himself up in his room and refuse to let anyone in. I want to help him, but he does not want to see me and I don’t know else todo. What can I do to help Charlie?” Your response will be published in an Aunt Agony Column of a newspaper

Dear Miss Kinnian,

I understand that you are currently having problems with trying to help CHarlie. I completely understand how you feel as I've been through this before. It is going to be tough to try and interact with Charlie as he is in a very fragile state.

The first thing you need to do is to try and understand what he is going through, as only then you will know the correct things to do. By not knowing what he is going through, you might do something that will cause him to be even sadder or agitated, further causing harm to the emotional well-being of both of you.

As Charlie is currenlty sad about losing his I.Q, you should try not to mention anything about how smart you are as it will definitely worsen his condition. Try your best to tell him all the good things that he still has and how he could cherish them. For example, Charlie has no disabilities physically and although he is becoming stupid, he could become much happier, as the saying goes"Ignorance is Bliss". Of course, there are many more ways but it is impossible to list them all. The one that i just listed is the best in my opinion. =D

You must be understanding and tell him that there is no point taking all the hardship himself, and you should tell him that you will go through the hardship with him. If that does not work, explain to him that there is no use being sad as he is just wasting valuable time in which he could spend contributing things to the society and he would feel a sense of accomplishment.

Well, that is all the info i can give you for now, Good bye!

Yours sincerely,
Lau Wai Soong
