English Assignment

This the poem about school:

As time ticked away
All eyes were on the clock
As students watched
Excitement was building up

As time ticked away
The teacher was rambling on and on
But the attention was not on her
School was about to end

As time ticked away
Adrenaline surged through their veins
Students supercharged with energy
To be released in a single blow

As time ticked away
Just another minute, they thought
And it came to an end
As students burst for the door

For your info, this poem does not have a rhyming sceme.

English Assignment

This is the poem i like:

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow--
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand--
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep--while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

  1. How are the figurative language used in the poem? Give the specific word(s), explain what type of figurative language it is and why the poet chose to use this figurative language?
The phrases "Yet if hope has flown away" and "Grains of the golden sand" are a form of hyperbole as it is very exaggerated due to the fact that hope cannot be flown away and sand is not exactly golden.

  1. Tell us why you like this poem in no less than 100 words.
I like the poem very much as the rhyming is extremely well done as rhyming poems usaually lose their charm and meaning to give a rhyme to it. However, this poem retains the meaning and there is a rhythm to it. Also, the description is pretty good and quite exaggerated and gives me a good idea about what the author is trying to convey.I was able to relate to what the author is saying and it literally felt as if he was reading my mind. Therefore, I decided to choose this poem for the english blog post.

Junior

HIII EVERYONE. Its juniors birthday!~ =D 4 days ago. I forgot to make a post about it at first but well, here it is.
Junior was born on 4th of May and on his birthday, we bought some treats! It included dried bacon, milk bones, and dried chicken. Dogs are really easy to please and Junior is no exception. He was happy for a whole day and wagged his tail non-stop when we sang his happy birthday. No photos of him unfortunately. At the end of this post though, there would be a video of him running in slow motion but the resolution is quite low as the camera is not high end.

He could tell on that day that it was something important as he kept coming the family members for us to pat him and then stare us straight in the face with the innocent look(AWWW) Animal Lovers For the Win! Well anyway, here are some of his photos =DD
Hope you enjoy.

Video:
You may want to skip the first part as it isnt very interesting. Junior was running towards me for this video.

Scouts Solo Hike

Hey everyone, back again.(This is going to be an informal post for your infomation.)
Ok so for the solo hike, what we were supposed to do was to basically go around a trail in the school all by yourself. With the earliest person leaving at 10.30 and the latest at 1.30. There are 5 minute intervals where the person has to wait before leaving for the trail so catching up with the next person is unlikely and makes the trail scarier as you are alone. We would have to follow candles and eerie looking glow sticks to make our way around to school.

So... i am pretty darn scared of the dark side so i volunteered to be the first few as 10.30 was still pretty early. (according to scouts, hwa chong turns magical from 11 to 4) XD
I started my hike at 10.45 and I think we were upstairs the smash courts on the second floor when it started. I was the 3rd person to walk the trail. So, it began.
It was pretty normal at first then suddenly KADABOOMMMMM NAH JUST kidding.
Ok first i walked down the stairs and at the bottom of the stairs, i turned left, thinking i followed the glow stick. First mistake. I turned the wrong direction and would have gone to a dark area but fortunately there was a senior hiding there who guided me.
After that, i went back to the trail and followed it..everything was going pretty well. Until, there was a glowstick pointing inside a toilet with the lights off. I wanted to go up the stairs and skip it but then KADABOOM a senior came out of nowhere and told me i had to go inside=( ( its the toilet that we always encounter when we go down to recess from clas 1o1, right next to the stairs. their the ones that are always locked so i presume they were SUPERNATURAL!!!)
Walking in super excited and ready to scream, there was a candle that VERY dimly lit up the place( You can barely make out your hands) and there was a paper pasted on the wall beside it. It instructed me to recite the scout law and being afraid of supernatural stuff( i really thought that if i didnt recite some sort of ghost in the cubicle will jump out, extreme fear caused this), i recited it twice just to be sure. According to the other fellow scouts, there was a senior hiding in the toilet to scare people but it didnt happen as i was a good boy. Ok so i turned around after reciting it and i made the turn towards the door and guess what- IT WAS LOCKED!!!!!!!!? I was just about to cry and pardon the offensiveness, i screamed 'SH*T' louder than i ever knew and i could and then i pulled the door. It was just closed after all :P I felt truly happy at that moment.
After that it wasnt so bad after all, and i just had to climb the stairs and go to a few dark areas. I always had the feeling that someone was watching me and trust me, its not a nice feeling at all. I can't really recall what i did now as it I had experienced one of the worst parts. I think i went up the stairs of the clocktower to the second floor and then went down a steep flight of stairs where i walked alone along the dimly lit stretch of road behind Tan Kah Kee(very respectable figure). Everything seemed fine until suddenly, i realised the glowstick ahead of me pointed into the museum. I forcefully chuckled, refusing to believe my eyes. I screamed in my head as I reluctantly walked inside trembling. The only thing inside was 1 glow stick that lit up the first floor(approximately 450ft of space) and on the second floor, there was just one candle right in the middle of a pathway where there a was a dictionary beside it. Being far too scared to think straight, I read the piece of paper and stoned, unable to comprehend even the simple instructions on the paper.(CURSES)
All around me was darkness, and SOMETHING was in the room. I think i hallucinated about hearing someone breathing and AT THIS POINT, A FIGURE SUDDENLY APPROACHED ME. "HOLY SH" I was about to say but fortunately, very fortunately, it was another SCOUT!!! The world was a happy place again. (For privacy issues, i will not reveal who he is) but anyway, we worked together and solved the mystery. The next part of the trail was the Ep3 shed. As we walked out of the museum, a senior approached us and we explained the whole thing. Me and the other scout had to part ways as it was considered cheating to be together. After about 2 minutes, i walked to the ep3 shed and there was bunch of people playing soccer. Ok...so basically that was a summary of the solo-hike. I shall not continue as the rest of the hike was less interesting and this post is much longer than expected. Hope you enjoyed reading and have a nice day!

Scouts Camp

Hey everyone, sorry for the really dead blog. Forgot that this site existed =P
FYI, im in the uniform group scouts =((( and i had to attend a 3 day camp from wednesday to friday i think.
Well anyway, today i would like to share my experience on the scout camp. It was good effort by the seniors and i appreciate it. But it could have been improved A LOT.( More sleep time and less pumping dished out.)
Its only gonna be a pretty short post though.
Ok so basically the camp was worth it but not exactly enjoyable. 3 days 2 nights of boredom acctually. To be continued...
